About the Foundation
  • The Bloomfield Hills Schools Foundation was created in 2009 and is operated independently from the District as a 501(c)(3) Michigan non-profit corporation.
  • The Foundation’s goal is to build a $40 million endowment. Its bylaws specify that it will receive and administer contributions to sustain and enhance the educational efforts and other long term, strategic efforts of the Bloomfield Hills Schools.
  • The Foundation Board consists of 11 members: the Bloomfield Hills Schools Board of Education president and one trustee, the Bloomfield Hills Schools superintendent and chief financial officer, and seven community members. They are Mary Ellen Miller, Cynthia von Oeyen, Steve Gaynor, Tim Weeks, Robert Stone, Mark LoPatin, Steve Weiss, Patti Fritz and Sue Nine. Mari Barnett and The Hon. Marc Barron are pending.
  • Board officers are Robert Stone, president; Cynthia von Oeyen, secretary; and Tim Weeks, treasurer.
  • Bloomfield Hills Schools has long-enjoyed the support of local taxpayers, but voters’ ability to make local funding decisions has been severely compromised since the passage of Proposal A in 1994. Donations to the Foundation can help offset the District’s need for an additional $13 million annually to have the same buying power as it had in 1994.
  • The Foundation will not raise money to replace core state funding for school district operations.
  • BHS programs include a multitude of co-curriculars like individual and team athletics, state and nationally-recognized performing and visual arts programs, countless clubs and student organizations, and a variety of unique learning environments from a working farm to an award-winning radio station.
  • BHS students participate heavily in co-curriculars. About one of every two high school students participates in athletics. About one of every two middle and high school student participates in clubs or other non-core academic programs.
  • Donations in any amount are welcomed. Checks can be sent made out to the BHS Foundation, 4175 Andover Road, Bloomfield Hills, MI 48302.

Remember the Andover choirs’ poignant holiday concert performance with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra?

The Lahser Marching Band’s thrilling and historic Memorial Day Parade experience in Washington D.C.?

Or the excitement of an Andover or Lahser football game on a crisp fall Friday night?

Your donation to the Bloomfield Hills Schools Foundation will help ensure that future students – Bloomfield’s own – will have those same learning opportunities on the stage, in the classroom or on the playing field.
